Semi-Rad is the perfect example of a passionate adventure writer who has stayed consistent in his content, and publishing schedule. Brendan Leonard has been working on Semi-Rad since 2011. He tells a narrative that people can relate with and that’s true to him. He makes it work. He also works full time doing other writing, speaking, film-making, and other arrangements.
Semi-Rad is not so much about being some dedicated badass, but instead is more relative to the every man/woman. People who do have full-time jobs but still live just on the cusp on full on adrenal junkie, but they go home. It’s dedicated to the weekend warriors; the ones who make sacrifices to play hard while still maintaining fully functioning lives in society.
There is a place for narrative in everyday life. It’s a component that is ingrained in our being–it is one of the cornerstones of humanity. As far back as we can document we have accounts of the narrative, whether it’s a petroglyph on a cave wall hidden deep in some Arizona desert cave, or an epic that’s been passed down through oral tradition over a thousand years. Storytelling is part of the human condition.
Semi-Rad does a service by offering people a glimpse into a human experience, and when we read this accounts we don’t feel so alone. I think if there is anything that I’ve found through this project, through studying Semi-Rad, and starting my own blog, it is a culture that is inclusive, but allows us to remain completely authentic with room to breath and create freely and openly.
