Passion writing includes all writing that is not motivated by monetary gains. This is not a 9-5 job, or at least most of them do not start out that way. One of the more popular modes of the passion writing genre is presented in blog culture, but a rhetorical perspective would include all sorts of different modes of communication such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest. This project is focused on outdoor oriented passion writing through blogs and online web platforms. The other forms of social media are most often used for marketing purposes to generate followers and views.
Because individual blogs can be hard to sustain a full income with, freelance writers have found other methods to help write passionately in professional environments, and this has become much more viable with the expansion of online publications.
One of the neat things about this kind of writing is that it is easy to do on the road. When travelling, all one needs is a computer to write drafts on, a power source every few days to charge, and a coffee shop with Wi-Fi to post. These blogs also serve as a sort of self-promotion, and often become a way of writers getting into being published in outdoor magazines such as Backpacker and Outside.
Writers can also attract the attention of the outdoor industry who will sponsor their websites to ad space and also pay for positive gear reviews.
WordPress makes for a very easy and low maintenance platform to start a blog, which also has statistics tracking and easy user interaction through comments and likes. Other bloggers who like your work can also “Press” your articles and promote them on their own blog.
Whatever it is that you enjoy writing about, it is likely that you will not get paid to write about it at first, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t write about it. I think that if writing was only inspired by monetary gains then we would be in dire need of creative output. True creativity is inspired by something that we cannot suppress. We write because we must. We create because we cannot be ourselves without it.
This platform allows us to continue to create and makes it so that we can share our passions and creativity with a vast audience, and if you haven’t written for a potentially international audience before, it sure does inspire the amount of effort you will put into your work. I’ve never proofread and edited drafts like I have since starting my blog, and I can say with absolute certainty that it has resulted in the most consistent, and best writing I’ve done in my life.
